An intensive 3 day (Monday – Wednesday), practical course
providing practice of advanced laparoscopic suturing skills. The
course is aimed at practicing surgeons, or consultants in any
specialty who wish to refine their laparoscopic suturing skills.
Participants are particularly encouraged to study effective needle
handling and bite placement, interrupted and continuous suturing
on porcine tissue.
The
course is suitable for practicing surgeons and consultants working
in general surgery, gynaecology and urology.

• Hands on Training on porcine tissue
• Video sessions on laparoscopic suturing

• 6-8 participants per course
• Laparoscopic enterotomy closure, gastrojejunostomy,
colorectal anastomosis, and hepaticojejunostomy.
• Use of newer energy sources
• Avoiding CBD injury in laparoscopic cholecystectomy
• Sutures and the surgeon
• Staplers in surgery
• Anesthesia for the laparoscopic surgery

Learning
Outcomes
At
the end of this course each trainee should be able to:
• Safely introduce and pick up a needle in an appropriate
position to make a bite through tissue.
• Pass a needle and suture through tissues at suitable
depth and distance for interrupted and continuous suturing
• Tie a safe laparoscopic Surgeon’s knot
• Demonstrate continuous suturing, maintaining tension
and completing the suture line safely.
• Completes the anastomosis
• Knows about intra corporal as well as extra corporal
suturing and knotting techniques
• Can make a Roeders knot
